To summarize:

FilePro has a 2 Gig limit unless the key or data is expanded from within the
filePro.

Is that correct?

Does the 32 bit pertain only to windows system and would unix be excluded.

Dennis,

Fp, in the days of smaller drives, allowed for adding key/data extents to
the same or different drives. Today with the larger drive capacity, the
only time one would want to do this is when the file size is nearing the 2GB
limit on a 32bit OS.

I don't recall exactly what the naming convention is for these extents.

To add an extent
1.run expand files
2. select the file wanted
3. At the prompt for the number of records to add, type <switch>. This will
list the available drive to store the extent.
4. Select a drive to store the extent on

I tested this on my system and found that no extent was added on my hard
drive. I am not sure if fp checks to see if the file size requires an
extent before adding one if the request is to the same drive. Someone more
familiar with extents may be able to answer that question.
