I (regrettably) just discovered and locally installed a webservice 
called "spiceworks". One of it's totally impressive list of central 
management tools is the ability to manage attached things like UPS's 
from a central location. When I saw how it auto detected all the UPS's 
and their battery lives, I just shook my head in shame for not 
installing it years ago. Of course the ability to see and manage UPS's 
is only 1% of the ability and usefulness of spiceworks.

I for one would never ever ever admin a windows domain with out it. You 
could have a domain with only one windows box and the rest esxi servers 
crammed with linux VM's and it still would be worth the setup.
