If I'm remembering properly the automatic table SHOULD execute prior to the input table (also after the input table).  So perhaps this file did not have an automatic table previously?  After the automatic table completes - with an END or it comes to the last line - then your input table should start.  You don't have a screen statement in your automatic table do you?
