conversion of data for filePro?

It seems like it's a banner day for people forgetting that not all data
originates locally.

A third party would be supplying XLS files.  The systems running filePro
won't have Excel - they're linux boxen.  The side running filePro won't
have any control over what's sent.

So...  We're looking at a need to do this unattended, on linux.

We have a lead on one potential solution (perl's "xls2csv" project).  We
wanted to see what other solutions might have been used to excellent
success, however.
