You can do this with a serial connection several ways.  I usually
use ckermit as it's robust and, with proper setup, not as slow as
most other methods of serial transfers.

I'm in the process of updating a 10-year old SCO system to run
under a VMware virtual machine on CentOS Linux.  The SCO 5.0.4
system has no TCP/IP networking.  I tried various serial options,
and decided that the best option is to pull the HD out of the SCO
box, mount it in an external chassis, use 'dd' to create a disk
image usable by VMware, then copy the data.
