Thanks for all the help
I found the solution was to "edit the setperms script so all the chown
entries come before the chmod entries and run it again." Then i ran
setperms & like magic it worked for my special user 'user1"

my customers server will run filepro as root and see's all filepro files
but will not run filepro as user "user1" and cannot see filepro files.
any help would be appreciated
is this maybe some setting in linux?
