Because zc is blank.

Ken,

Check the debugger and zc was set.

I have checked it in the debugger and it is set.  Why would it lose its
value when the record is displayed?

When Ac is changed to: 
>         Then: AC="*zc*1      *7         *8        *6   *9        *40
*33   *68               *zf"

The record is highlighted.
