Thanks to Mark Fairlight. who helped me debug this using the SCO truss
command! We have an answer.

dclerk was being called with the command:

dclerk STATES -pq

which allowed a user to select a printer:

ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿
³Select output destination³
ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ´
³ ³
³ 1 - Printer ³
³ 2 - File ³
³ 3 - Display ³
³ 4 - Local printer ³
³ ³
³ X - Exit ³
³ ³
ÃÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ´
³ Enter Selection > 1 ³
ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ

Apparently executing the "PRINTER FILE (whatever)" command choked
whenever the "-pq" option was being used. On an ordinary "dclerk STATES"
line (without a -pq on it), worked fine.

I tested several of the "select output destination" options, but no
matter which one I chose, the "PRINTER FILE" command aborted the processing
with a core dump.

Remember this happened on an older 5.0.13 version of filePro and on a
SCO Openserver 5.0.7 system, so on newer filePro systems or non-OpenServer
systems, this might not be a problem.

Thanks mark!
