And that's the way the printer manufacturers like it.

"You can buy our el-cheapo printer for $5 less than the other brand's 
el-cheapo printer" is all they hope the buyer sees.

Unfortunately, what they really mean is "this printer uses a proprietary 
interface, and is only capable of painting pictures, and only through the 
drivers that only we provide, and anything that assumes that this printer is 
capable of doing more than squirting ink on the page will be unable to print 
to it".  Of course, the marketing department probably thought it might be 
better to leave that off of the box.  :-)

filePro is one of those software packages that assumes the printer can do 
more than squirt ink onto the page.
