| I found this very descriptive page on the history of HP's PCL Printer
| language. I thought the fp list would be interested. I have never
| had it explained so well. I was looking at a Samsung Laser Printer
| (24ppm) for $59.95 at Newegg and was trying to figure out what
| "Samsung Printer Language" is. I think I am going to buy the printer
| and find out if it would be happy with filePro right out of the box.
It might print plain ASCII, but I'll be surprised if existing fP font
changes or line drawing commands work as expected on that printer, short
of your composing a new printer table. If you do so, of course the
community would be in your debt were you to share it.

Two facts I retain from this list about the PCL Description Language are
[1], any version up to 5 is a superset of prior ones, while PCL 6 is
NOT in the least backwards compatible; and [2], GhostP[C|D}L's binary
(yclept pcl6 for some mysterious reason) doesn't handle PCL 6 input at
all, just PCL 5 and earlier.
What else is it necessary to retain in one's grey matter? :-)
