And there's another point I missed, well covered here by Russ Allbery, who
wrote (among other things) INN, the NNTP package that moves most of what's
left of Usenet these days:

I will add "and report back with your results.

The short version is "because it makes the archives more useful to people
who are trying to Ask Smart Questions", but it's worth reading the whole 
piece.
