OT; OS system locks

I just had to reboot a client's db server as there appeared to be a system
lock on a filePro file that is accessed by the primary programs and causing
the application to hang up.

 

The client has both users logging in locally and using terminal server.

 

This problem has arisen periodically, but not affecting the same file.

 

The reboot takes care of the problem.

 

What I would like to know does anyone have some suggestions as to what to
look for that might eliminate or reduce this occurrence.
