I'll second Richard's suggestion of Panasonic phones. I had Panasonic
corded phones years ago. They worked well, but I replaced them with various
Uniden, AT&T and other cordless phones over the years. None seemed to last
very long.
Then, about 3 years ago, I purchased a Panasonic KX-TG6700 2-line
phone and answering system along with three additional handsets. They are
much clearer and have much longer range than my old Uniden phones, even
though they operate in the same 5.8 Ghz frequency as the Uniden phones did.
They cost a few bucks more, but they are well worth it...
