What a strange (and wrong) idea! You greatly underestimate humankind's
ability to damage the planet, and greatly overestimate our ability to
rebuild it. Will we be able to recreate coral reefs in the laboratory, to
take one small example?
I for one am glad that our forebears drastically reduced pollution on the
cities we live in; that after cutting down the old growth forests in 98%
of the country some of them realized they couldn't go on that way; that I
have seen whales alive and not just in picture books. If that's
praying to the planet, so be it. It's the only one we've got.
Addressing problems as we realize them will develop far more expertise
than waiting until the problems are huge.
By all means, let's charge into the future with our blinders on. Not!
