When I was 8 years old on Easter about 11 AM, I had terrible cramps. I could
hardly breath. This was in 1948 when doctors still made house calls. The
doctor
came and after he saw me he took me directly to the hospital. They did blood
work and thought I had diabetes because my blood sugar was so high. Then
they realized it was Easter. Apparently my appendix had ruptured and like
Jim, I was fill with Poisons. They did not operate until Midnight because
they
had to fill me with penicillin first. The operation took 4 hours. When I
awoke the
next morning I had tubes in both nostrils and they were pumping my stomach.
This lasted until Wednesday AM. I had IV's for nourishment and penicillin
shots
every 3 hours. I would not be here today if it weren't for penicillin. I was
in the
hospital 10 days. I suppose since I was young I may have recovered quicker.
I got the next week off from school, which for a kid was a good deal.
I hope Jim has a speedy recovery.
