consolidating qualified files using cat

Hello,
Fp 5.0.14R4 on freebsd
I am working on consolidating a qualified file into a single "key".
Each "data" file is empty - 0 length.
It seems that I can
cat keydallas >> key;
cat keyhouston >>key;
cat keytran >> key;
/u/appl/fp/freechain QUOTE
/u/appl/fp/dxmaint QUOTE -RA
then delete the qualifiers and everything seems to work.
Am I setting myself up for problems or is this a reasonable thing to do?
The point is to merge the data without losing the @cd, at cb, at ud, at ub.
I have run successful tests but have not put into production.
Can anyone confirm or deny?
