as the others have said, programming in objective-c for the iphone is a 
whole other kettle of fish from
learning how to program in C on SCO Unix.

Google "objective-c iphone tutorial" and there is a ton of good stuff.

The other smartphone that will have a large marketshare will be Andriod 
phones.
They can be programmed in Java, which is a heck of lot easier than C.
At least for me.

(side note to John Esak)
My son has a Driod Eros, and he has an app where you  scan the barcode,
and it searches using the UPC. It even reads 2D barcodes. Not to get into
a Google vs. Apple smartphone war, but reading over the Andriod SDK
it may be easier to go with that platform.<flamewars engaged>Besides
who wants AT&T's map vs. Verizon. :)
