I use Avast, myself. Used to use AVG, but past 7.5 it got bloated and less
reliable, so I tossed it. Avast is ok, although I keep resident shield on
-any- virus scanner off, for performance reasons. I use my system so
differently from most people that I can get away with it, really...I scan
manually after any downloads via programs that don't auto-launch a virus
scanner, and if I have to use ThunderBird, I'll scan my mailbox file
manually as well as any attachments I detach...just to be sure.

But I'm still not happy with Avast...the performance kind of sucks in terms
of speeds of full-system scans.

I'm ready to toss over Avast this spring when my license is up for renewal,
and go with Vipre instead. The benchmark numbers on their site are
impressive, and the fact that you can get a complete home site license
for $50 for the home version is a big win compared to Avast. Vipre's
enterprise pricing looks reasonable as well.

The memory and time metrics are enough to interest me, home site license
notwithstanding.
