No, it's not a "balance" problem. It's a duplicate key problem. @rn changes
on every record of course so it couldn't be more non-duplicate than that.
One million records built on field 3 which is always empty except for two or
three recordss is going to have nearly a million duplicate keys for the
index.  With the @rn attached, every one of the million keys for that index
is different.
