OT: linux vs vt100 termcap problems + screen - help!

I've tried setting the utf-8 inside screen, in the screenrc, and now I've
tried it with -U. Same results...the bad/incomplete colour drawing in
multiple programs, as well as the messed up arrows in mutt.
I've also tried tinkering with pretty much every permutation of bce, c1,
and gr that you can think of. Somewhat blindly, since they're not horribly
well documented in the man page. The only one that's had any effect is gr,
and that only makes it draw -different- wrong character's for mutt's
arrows. Nothing affects the incomplete colour drawing. :/
