Laura is currently dealing with this at a local college that hires her for
6-8 weeks at the beginning of each semester, to help with the flood of
infected laptops being brought on campus. (The IT department won't let any
computer onto their network until it passes numerous "tests", including
virus and spyware scans.)
In an effort to "save money" :-) they outsourced the entire IT department,
giving the current people something like 15 minutes notice to sign on with
the new company, or leave. (And most of the people who knew how to do
things beyond the basics, left.)
Everyone involved (except the new people, of course) sees massive problems
in the not-too-distant future, which will cost more money in the long run.
