OT: Things have changed.....MS unbelievable oversight....

I have the latest version of Windows 7 (full Enterprise/Business) edition.
Not exactly sure of the correct nomenclature. But, this is amazing.

The machine, by the way, is a huge workstation.... 6TB RAID, super fast Core
i7, 6Gb of memory, was 64bit, I moved it back to 32bit so my memory goes
down to 3.... The point is it's a very high power machine... And honestly
could be doing several huge rendering jobs simultaneously, while letting me
do a couple/three other foreground type tasks.

I noticed that if I use the mouse and open the Start Menu... And then either
purposely or accidentally click on the Shut Down choice of this menu...
BANG! The whole system shuts own! No questioning "Are you SURE you want to
shut off this enormous computer.... That may be doing lots of tasks right
now? No nothing. Not at all like the usual bothersome "Are you sure you
want to copy this file..." or similar truly stupid confirmations. Explain
to me how anyone, anywhere who has an education level above 5th grade... Let
alone the ultra engineers at Microsoft could ever think it is okay to shut
down a computer on what might have been a mistaken mouse click? How did
such a thing *ever* pass through any level of beta testing, never mind alpha
testing? How is it at all possible that this passed through whatever
quality control there is on this giant company's flagship product. I mean,
seriously now folks.... What if you opened the Start Menu and meant to click
on the item just above Shut Down and your hand lipped a fraction of an inch
... And you hit the Shut Down choice. You aren't even given the chance to
correct an error. It's just inconceivable to me that this is a "feature?"
in Windows 7. I think the quality control and/or design engineering at MS
has gone downhill quite a bit. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and
say it wasn't *always* this way. (Others will disagree.) But, it certainly
is pretty slack there now. How is it that none of the well-paid reviewers of
the this next step in operating systems didn't complain... Or even mention
it? Is Windows 7 slated for SP1, 2, and 3 like XP... I suppose so, why not?
But, to have to fix something this basic is just amazing to me. I don't
even want to hear counter arguments to why a machine should immediately shut
down at the touch of a single button with no confirmation. No contrary
point would be supportable. Call me Al Gore, but no, I don't want to hear
from any of the true scientists... I'm happy with my own contrivers and 2nd
rate hacks that can be pressured into saying anything.

Okay rant over... But for once... I think it is a completely fair statement
to say that this error/oversight is patently ridiculous.

P.S. - They certainly have gone downhill at MS... I used to zealously defend
them. I can not defend utter stupidity and negligence in design.
