Reminder for @UPDATE

I seem to remember that when using @UPDATE I have to enter a SCREEN ,x
command to get it to move to the first field on the cursor path. Is
this correct?
I asked because I tried modifying an older program with a simple @UPDATE
routine that filled a table with existing data before it hits and END
statement. When adding a record, instead of moving to the first field
in the cursor path, it would save the empty record and go in and create
a new record and go to @UPDATE in an endless loop.
At no point in the auto table or the input table to I save the record or
move to a new one.
Is it because I didn't use the SCREEN command that this is occurring?
