Most of our backups these days use rsync, copying either to
external hard drives, or to off-site systems.  While this does
not provide version control as some methods do, proper rotation
of backup devices can provide access to older versions.

Normally we do not do a --delete daily so that older copies of
files will stay around for a while to take care of the accidental
deletion problem.

Rsync provides excellent abilities to filter out things that
should not be backed up (e.g. /var/run/*.pid files), and is very
efficient in terms of bandwidth when doing remote backups.
