Biometrics

Has anyone here ever used a biometric or fingerprint scanning device 
with an online application?
If so, could you share some info on the device?

I need to write an application where biometric is used to access 
modules.  This will be a web
based application.

I would go out and buy the scanner if I knew it is one I could use - As 
with many other things in
our industry, too many options and not enough money to try them all  :-)
