If my suspicions are correct, this has more to do with numerical filePro
version than platform.  I -believe- you're seeing an issue that's been
reported on this list 2-3 times in the last couple months.

Specify the third, "optional" maximum read length argument to the function.
If you do so, I'm betting your segv problems vanish.
