Thank you. There very definitely are file locking and caching settings 
in samba that need careful attention.
Especially when using it to host windows filepro.
That's why I mentioned "network drive client caching effects" and "try 
the tests with the temp files on the C: drive"
Even though I don't think he ever said anything about the disk being a 
network drive. It's just the most likely way to get funny file locking 
behavior.
