Freechain Issue

We switched to Linux from SCO about a month ago, and have encountered
a strange error that
Reoccurs 2 or 3 times a day with one file.

The file in question is quite large (5k per record / 875meg key). It
does not delete records
(only updates and adds them), yet when we add a new record, We get a
"About to rebuild freechain"
message (which is preformed), and then the file seems to be fine for 2
or 3 hours, then the
message will reoccurs, and has to be rebuild again. Another thing
about this file, I don't
know if it is relevant or not, but it is the most heavily used file
here. At any one moment,
there can be 50 - 100 people using it.

The input process has not changed since the move (not anything related
to lookups anyway),
so I am puzzled by this happening so often now.

Has anyone else ever had this type of problem, and what was its
solution (if there is one).

Thanks all in advance
