Mark,
I think I finally got you on this one, Mark many Ken 1 :-(
A quick test shows:
Entering 123 in an Excel cell converst to a right aligned number 123
Entering '123 converts to a left aligned string 123
Entering "123 converts to a left aligned string "123
To be honest I thought " did do something in Excel but now I am not too
sure.
