I'm pretty sure we all did that mod of the vt52 termcap back in the day (and I think we all got it to work, I dunno whose version is still in the termcap database, but they all wound up pretty much the same, so it doesn't matter). And there was a special version of fP that ran on on the 8x40 display (Ken can correct me if I'm wrong, but it was in our [Radio Shack's] third-party catalog, and there were a lot of things in that catalog that never really existed -- and none of that stuff was ever stocked in the stores, so who could tell?).
I've got four Mod 100s, and they all still work. My preferred machines for just typing stuff (my eyes are going, and that screen works fine for me). Every other machine I use has a null-modem cable. Except the main Linux server (HP/Compaq, I forget who's in charge, but it's labeled Compaq). So I have to move stuff from one of the subordinate machines after the serial transfer. It's not rocket surgery.
