Without knowing what your menu option looks like, I wonder if you could
use a selection table to help filter retired records out.

You may find that your solution may be to write a processing table to
do all that filePro offers in a custom/controlled environment.

Why are you keeping the "retired" records?  If you need to keep them
around for any reason, how about creating a qualifier and move them to
this qualifier?  By moving I mean copy and delete ... By doing this,
you have effectively solved the problem you are apparently having and
still keep your data for whatever is it that you need it.
