OT: ubuntu install problem

Might check the BIOS Event Log to see if it's getting logged there (the
message about firmware).  I'd give it <20% odds, but it's possible.

If it's not getting through partitioning the disk, much less making a
filesystem on top of a partition, there's noplace for it to actually write
a log to.

What's the last thing displayed when you attempt this procedure?
