Just out of college I went to work for AT&T. One of my co-workers told
me about how they wanted to replace an old cable-PBX system with a new
electronic unit where people would now be able to call out directly
instead of asking the receptionist for an outside line. They were dying
to get rid of it since maintaining it was a bitch. They once had to go
to the AT&T museum to get a pat out of one of the museum pieces to fix
the unit since they had no more spare parts. The owner refused to
change it because his receptionist preferred the old one and he didn't
feel he needed the new one. Why did she like the old one? The new one
didn't have a place on which she could put her plant.
