If it is going to be used as infrequently as you say, I would bypass the
whole issue and use a remote takeover piece of software like PC Anywhere or
Tight VNC.
That way the client would dial in / connect to a local PC thru a VPN and
then do whatever is required.
It's a lot easier to get up and running and can be done for the cost of the
vpn connection. Tight VNC is free. PC Anywhere is more robust and a bit
easier to use once set up.
If the requirement is that the client must use a browser to see the data
then this approach won't work.

Another solution is Ctirix GoToMyPc. This is a very secure Subscription
service. However, one advantage is that one can use any computer with
internet access to access the computer running the service. It is simple to
set up and is quite secure. They offer a free trial so you can test it out.
Be aware that with GoToMyPc or PcAnywhere filepro MUST run in a window. It
will not run full screen. in both cases you can set up remote printing.

You should also look into Log Me In (www.logmein.com) I used to use
GoToMyPC, but now prefer LogMeIn.
