We have used three versions of Linux extensively, first Caldera, then SuSE,
and now CentOS. CentOS is basically Red Hat Enterprise Linux without the
big bucks to Red Hat.

I find that I can keep CentOS current with ``yum update'' far better than I
could with SuSE even though we were supposedly ``Partners'' and had paid a
fair amount to Novell for support. Some things like the docbook and
openjade documentation tools work far better on CentOS than they did on
SuSE, probably because the developers work primarily with RH Linux.

When we went from Caldera to SuSE, I moved all of our server software to
the OpenPKG portable package management system which allow us to work with
identical SRPMS and configuration regardless of the underlying system,
Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, OpenServer and OS X (although these last two are
not as well supported).

Thanks John, I don't have any good place for them, and am trying to cut
down on my pack-rat collections of stuff (or my wife is :-)

Now if you want to sell them on eBay, I can give you my paypal information,
and you can send the money to me :-).

If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police,
the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the
government -- and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws.
