OT: Linux/CUPS/stair-stepping

Given that the problem is LF doesn't do CR as well, how much harm to
"everyone else" would occur if you changed LF-->CR+LF in the printer
itself?  Programs sending CR+LF already wouldn't be affected, as the
result would be CR+CR+LF, which has no visible difference.  Only those
people who want, and depend on, stair-stepping, would be affected by
the change.  If there are any such people printing to this printer,
they could tweak their settings.
