Get remaining license count prior to running *clerk

Working on WEB & FP interface, expecting to run into problems
with license count.
Is there a way to know how many usable seats I have prior to
running *clerk or *report?
I thought of `ps -ef |grep dclerk |wc -l` and same for 'dreport'
and figure out how many licenses are currently used but I am not
sure that this would be an accurate approach.
I know that if you run dclerk -ver off the command line you
get filePro's version. I wonder if there is a similar argument
that will return license information. If so, what is it?
The idea is to keep system from breaking (hanging) because I've
reached or exceeded my 250 user license.
