This works fine here:

     ww(10,oopsie)
     xx(10,*)
     yy(10,mdyy/)
     zz(20,badedit)

showing:

     WW(10,*)
     XX(10,*)
     YY(10,MDYY/)
     ZZ(20,*)

I'm not connected to a *nix box at the moment, but I can try it later.
