I don't understand the connection between the question and fpgroups.
That said, "rm -rf *" would recursively remove everything from the
current directory down. (Except for items in the current directory
starting with a period.)
Why would one use it? To get rid of an entire directory tree.
I'm not sure what you mean by "used it in the fpgroups.com site".
If one were to be logged in to the server hosting the site, and you
were to to that in the directory containing the site's files, it
would effectively remove the site from existence. If one were to
type it into the chat root on the site, I would expect it to do
nothing beyond displaying it like any other text in the chat.
