Top post:

By the way tell your IT people the fp is a full 32 bit windows application
without the memory sucking GUI requirements.

I presently have quite a number of fp clients running on server 2003 with
window XP and are not experiencing any problems. This includes on client
who has 5 order entry clerks pounding away at the system 6 days a week.
Each girl enters about 250 orders per day and prints out bar code labels and
other documentation for each of these orders. These order can be from 1 to
300 detail line. Most being in the range of 100 detail lines.

If fp was causing network problems, they would be jumping all over me.

It appears your IT department may be trying to sabotage you.

As Fairlight suggested, find out the ip address of the server. When Fp
reports the problem, get to a command prompt and type

Ping nnn.nnn.n.n (in my case I would ping 192.162.1.7)

Results should look something like this is you are connecting.

C:\>ping 192.168.1.7

Pinging 192.168.1.7 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 192.168.1.7: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.1.7: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.1.7: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.1.7: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.7:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

Simple check.

There may be a bad switch/router which might causing the problem.
