You'll never BELIEVE what Jay Ashworth said here...:

cmd.exe, command.com, and the CLI-based utilities that come with windows
need the "Windows type" slashes.  The interpreters are just set that way,
and the programs need it because they're programmed for that to be a
switch indicator.

Other than that, internally, everything should be able use a "/" as long as
it doesn't rely on one of the above.
