Windows fP doesn't find its databases

Having an odd issue with fP on Windows Server 2003 with 5.0.14DN9.

This is in a batch file (and I've also tried these directly:

set pfdsk=z
set pfdir=deputy

Upon running dclerk, we get an error message that's a bit confusing:

"There are no filePro files in *:deputy/filepro/"

One problem: There are files where it's supposed to be looking, in
z:/deputy/filepro/.

I've tried pfdsk as both z and z: as well as pfdir of deputy, \deputy, and
/deputy. I've tried all permutations. The slash changes when I use a
backslash, but the net result is the same.

One thing that remains constant is that it's looking at an asterisk drive
instead of z. Why? More importantly, how do I fix this in general?

TIA,
