I've been using groff to print typeset invoices for years.

One of my customers has been printing 3 column typeset auction catalogs
from a database since 1990 or so where the output is taken directly from a
database via an SQL select which is parsed by a perl script to generate the
groff input. Actually the first versions of this used xroff on Xenix
systems which Tom Podnar's Microlite was selling.

The SQL-Ledger program uses LaTeX templates for many of its reports.

We regularly print mailing labels using groff to format the output for
standard Avery labels (with a tweak that it prints return address lables on
the unused labels on the final sheet so we're not wasting them).
