Ken and all other interested parties,

The file executing the lookup did not have the edit available that was 
in the looked up file.  When I copied the edit to the local table it 
worked as expected.

Since I was reading not writing the data, this is very puzzling.  I 
could understand the processing having a problem if I wanted to write 
the data to the file with an edit it did not understand, but on a read, 
that makes little sense.

But that gave me the clue I needed.  I have been messing with this for 
over any hour and it was making me nuts.
