File Transfer between FP application & AnzioWin

Bob,
These are exactly the kind of suggestions that I was hoping for. A few
followup questions/comments:

1. In Anzio's Transfer menu, turn on "Receive quiet", which is
admittedly
misnamed. Then the Anzio commands that are sent down from the server
should not display on the screen.

I like that idea and it will make it look cleaner. During the
development phase, it's actually been helpful to me to see the messages
so I can tell what's happening. Since I can't really count on too much
being set properly at the client end, I assume I can just tell Anzio to
go into Receive quiet by using this in a shell script:
echo "\0034 receive quiet \0035"

2. You could add an option to download-and-open, or you might want to
simply call it "view". After sending the file down, send Anzio a
WINSTART
command with the filename. A DOC will open in Word, an XLS will open in
PowerPoint, etc., just as if you had done an Open from Windows Explorer.

I thought about doing that but in my particular case, many, if
not most of the files, will have extensions that are not known to
Windows. My customer base uses custom programs provided by the
factories they represent to do sizing calculations that allow them to
figure out the exact product configuration to quote their customers. Of
course, if the file had a known extension it would probably be preferred
to just go ahead and launch it. Maybe I should look at the extension
before I download the file, and if it is something obvious go ahead and
use the "winstart" command.

3. Similarly, you could do a download-and-print, using AnzioWin's
WINPRINT
command.

Probably not applicable for my application.

4. You might also want to provide an ability to print ALL the files
associated with a host record. We are getting this request from some
customers of our (freestanding) Print Wizard package, and are developing
a
concept of a "print manifest", which is nothing more than a list of
files.
Printing the manifest means printing all the listed files. We're working
on techniques in Windows to ensure that these print IN ORDER, which is
proving to be a challenge.

Probably not applicable to my customer base.

5. AnzioWin also has an interface to the scanner, using the
pseudo-filename "SCAN://". You could easily integrate a scan-and-upload
capability. We allow options on the filename to specify scanning
parameters, such as density, color vs. B&W vs. grayscale, portion of the
page, etc. We even have logic to de-duplex 2-sided originals.

That could be very interesting.

6. AnzioWin can print certain files itself, including plain text, PCL,
BMP, GIF, JPG, TIF, WMF, EMF, and SPL. It can also make PDFs out of
these.

Several of my customer are now creating PDF files from filepro
reports using Anziowin. It is very easy to implement and has satisfied
a long standing desire.
Thanks again for your input.
