A front-page article on the Business Section of the NYTimes for 15 March
concerns grandcentral.com.
This site lets you pick a phone number (yours "forever") which when
dialed rings several of your real home|work|mobile numbers. It is
apparently going to stay free if you forward to only two numbers.
I've already put it to use: our building lately abandoned its flaky
intercom system, and switched to having the front door or the package
room ring me using the POTS, but this was a dead end if I was out
since Jane and I don't answer each other's phones. Now I've given the
building a single number that rings both of our home phones.
Plus it records voice mail, lets you switch a call between your cell and
your land-line, and other amusing features.
Maybe the free lunch has arrived? :-)
