ghostscript can read pcl5 & lower (as produced by filepro) and output pcl6
(which is a completely different binary format that can't be produced by
anything like a print code table in filepro)
I've never tried this but but just for giggles try this (assuming you have
ghostpcl):
pcl6 -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pxlmono -sOutputFile=- file.pcl |lp -d
pcl6printer -o raw
if that works you could maybey make a filepro printer by replacing
"file.pcl" with "-" and use hplaser for the printer type. or it might need
to go into a script and use the script in place of "lp ..." in pmaint.
for sco, get ghostpcl binaries here:
http://www.aljex.com/bkw/sco/#ghostpcl
for linux, I dunno, they only supply source and I don't feel like
maintaining lots of different binary tars for linux. For sco it was easy to
build something for myself, and tar it up and that same binary, and that
same file/directory layout in the tar, was safe for every other sco user.
It's not like that for linux.
Note I do NOT recommend this as a solution. If a printer requires running
something like above for every job, I say it's not a useful printer for us
(filepro users)
It can be any/all of cpu intensive, slow, disk space hog (raster data in
temp files), and unreliable depending on the server, the data in the print
job, the current load average on the server, the number of print jobs being
processed at the moment, etc...
It's not a solution it's a curiosity and maybe just a useful thing to know
it's possible if the straights are ever dire enough. If the customer is in a
panic and the good printer is busted and this is the only printer available
and no time to do anything else etc...
