record is being updated - access denied

This come up on the list every now and then, so once more:

    Lockfiles have absolutely nothing to do with record locking!
    (None.  Nada.  Zip.  Zilch.  Zero.  Gornisht.)

Apparently, even with "everyone logged off", something is still running
that has the record locked.

Find out who has the record locked, and get them out.  If this is a
*nix box, get a copy of showlock.
