I think the final answer to this is the obvious one I missed when I
originally asked the question... and that is that if the "empty" colons at
the end of the map were *truly* at the end of the map, then the
restructuring probably would have been designed to remove them... BUT, we
are usually maening the empty colons at the end of the "key" segment... and
removing them would certainly screw up anything that had been added to the
"data" segment in terms of nubmering. Yes, I suppose you could say that
while restrcturing the key, the program could simply check the data segment
to see if it was empty and remove or not remove the empty colons as
required... but I think this would seem to be a littl over the top something
that really doesn't hurt much.
