Bah.  My mistake.  $USER is more or less a [t]csh-ism.  $LOGNAME is the
portable one (which is -also- present in [t]csh).  Been using *nix since
'89 and I -still- confuse the two variables' portability at times.  Not
always, just when I really need to be clear. :)
